The Gulf Cooperation Council has renewed its strong condemnation of continued Iranian aggression against member states, specifically targeting critical infrastructure and oil facilities. According to the GCC, these actions constitute a clear violation of international law and pose a direct threat to regional stability and global energy supply security.
Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, emphasized that the ongoing attacks reveal Iran’s escalatory approach toward GCC states. He described these actions as rejected acts of aggression that undermine de-escalation efforts and threaten both regional and international security.
GCC Rejects Iranian Claims
The Secretary General stressed that Iranian allegations attempting to hold Gulf Cooperation Council states responsible for any military operations are baseless and categorically rejected. According to Al-Budaiwi, these claims have no foundation in truth and represent an attempt to deflect responsibility for Iran’s own hostile actions.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region following what the council describes as deliberate targeting of energy infrastructure. These attacks on oil facilities represent not only a threat to member states but also to the stability of global energy markets.
Gulf States Reserve Right to Self-Defense
Al-Budaiwi pointed out that GCC member states maintain established policies based on respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs. However, he emphasized that Gulf states retain their full right under Article 51 of the UN Charter and international law provisions to take necessary measures to protect their security, stability, and resources.
The Iranian attacks on critical infrastructure have raised concerns about the vulnerability of energy facilities in the region. Additionally, the targeting of oil installations threatens to disrupt global energy supplies at a time when market stability remains crucial for the international economy.
International Community Called to Action
The Gulf Cooperation Council called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in condemning the attacks and taking a firm and deterrent stance. Meanwhile, the council urged global powers to push Iran toward immediate compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026, which aims to prevent such violations and preserve regional stability.
According to the statement, the resolution provides a framework for addressing Iranian aggression and maintaining peace in the region. The GCC emphasized that international pressure is necessary to compel Iran to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighboring states.
Regional Security Concerns Intensify
The Secretary General reaffirmed the unity and complete solidarity of Gulf Cooperation Council member states in confronting any threats to their security and interests. In contrast to Iran’s alleged hostile policies, GCC states maintain their commitment to joint action aimed at enhancing regional stability and achieving peace for their peoples.
The attacks represent a pattern of behavior that threatens not only individual Gulf states but the collective security architecture of the region. Furthermore, the targeting of energy infrastructure has implications that extend beyond regional boundaries, affecting global energy markets and international trade routes.
The council’s statement underscores the growing frustration among Gulf states with what they perceive as continued Iranian hostility despite diplomatic efforts. Additionally, the reference to international law and UN Charter provisions signals that Gulf states are prepared to exercise their right to self-defense if attacks continue.
The international community’s response to the GCC’s call for action remains to be seen. Authorities have not yet announced specific measures or deadlines for implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2817, though the council indicated that immediate compliance is expected from Iran to prevent further escalation in the region.
