The United Arab Emirates is experiencing ongoing weather instability that authorities expect to continue until Friday, March 27, according to the Ministry of Interior and meteorological agencies. Multiple government entities across the country have intensified field readiness and issued extensive safety warnings as unstable weather conditions bring rain, strong winds, thunder, lightning, and reduced visibility to various regions.
The Ministry of Interior has urged drivers to exercise extreme caution during the current weather conditions, which include varying intensities of rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, occasional hail, and decreased horizontal visibility in some areas. Authorities have called on motorists to reduce speeds, avoid valleys where water flows, stay away from water accumulations, and refrain from visiting beaches and the sea.
Weather Forecast and Unstable Conditions
The National Center of Meteorology warned that the UAE weather instability will persist through the end of the week. According to the center, cloud formations are moving from the west toward the country, leading to the development of convective clouds over scattered areas at intervals. These clouds bring rainfall of varying intensity, with occasional lightning and thunder, and the possibility of hail in limited areas.
The meteorological forecast indicates that Sunday will see convective cloud formation over scattered regions, particularly in northern and eastern areas and Al Ain, with rainfall of varying intensity. Additionally, cumulus clouds will continue forming on Monday and Tuesday across most parts of the country with varying precipitation levels. Cloud activity will persist Wednesday with chances of rain in some northern and eastern regions, while Thursday through Saturday will see further development of convective clouds with rainfall of varying intensity.
Emergency Response and Coordination
The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority confirmed it is monitoring the weather situation and preparing proactive measures for potential impacts through coordination with strategic partners. The authority recently held a meeting with the Ministry of Interior, the National Center of Meteorology, and other partners as part of the Joint Assessment Team for weather and tropical conditions to monitor and analyze developments.
Meanwhile, concerned authorities in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman have intensified field readiness and precautionary measures. These efforts aim to enhance public safety, reduce road risks, and ensure rapid response to any emergencies during rainfall periods.
Speed Reduction Systems and Traffic Safety Measures
Abu Dhabi Police activated speed reduction systems on roads coinciding with weather fluctuations and heavy rainfall as part of efforts to enhance traffic safety. The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate called on drivers to comply with specified speeds adjusted through smart gate screens on external and internal roads and electronic guidance signs, urging adequate safety distances between vehicles.
However, authorities emphasized that the speed reduction system is activated as a precautionary measure during unstable weather conditions in accordance with safety requirements. They stressed the importance of monitoring weather conditions before departure and exercising caution when driving near water accumulations or valleys.
Dubai and Northern Emirates Safety Initiatives
The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai urged drivers to follow safety procedures when driving in rainy weather. In contrast to normal conditions, motorists must check their vehicles before departure, verify the integrity of brakes, tires, and lights, and increase safety distances while reducing speeds on roads.
Dubai Municipality announced full readiness to deal with weather consequences, confirming the deployment of field teams around the clock for rapid response to reports and treatment of water accumulations across the emirate. The municipality receives public reports 24/7 via WhatsApp service or direct calls to 800900.
Sharjah Police and Ajman Police issued similar warnings, calling on drivers to maintain adequate safety distances, reduce speeds, and avoid valleys, dams, beaches, and the sea. Ajman Municipality emphasized not opening rainwater drainage openings and reporting any observations through approved channels.
Authorities continue monitoring the weather situation through Friday, with emergency teams maintaining full readiness across all emirates to ensure public safety throughout the unstable weather period.
