حين سئلت سيمون دي بوفوار عن اقتباسها الشهير "لا يولد الإنسان امرأة، بل يصبح كذلك" في مقابلة بعنوان "لماذا أنا نسوية" أجابت:
”أجل، تمثل هذه الصيغة الأساس لجميع نظرياتي … معناها بسيط جداً، أن تكون امرأة هذه ليست حقيقة طبيعية. إنها نتيجة تاريخ معين، لا يوجد هناك قدر بيولوجي أو نفسي يحدد امرأة كما هي .. إن الفتيات الصغيرات يُصنّعن ليصبحن نساء“، وماتقصده هو أن المرأة تصنع لخدمة الرجل وتندرج في تهميش متعمد للاستغلال الجنسي والاجتماعي واعتبارها مواطن درجة ثانية، كما تصنع بما يسمى "امرأة كاملة الأنوثة" أو زوجة صالحة.
وبرغم الاختلافات البيولوجية، كشفت دي بوفوار زيف الفكرة القائلة بأن الفروق بين الجنسين كافية لتبرير التسلسل الهرمي القائم على نوع الجنس من حيث المكانة والقوة الاجتماعية، فجادلت بأن حالة ” الدرجة الثانية للمرأة ” ناتجة عن عملية تاريخية طويلة، حتى لو لم تعد تعمد المؤسسات على حرم النساء من السلطة، فإنها لا تزال تنوي الإبقاء على القوة التي راكمها الرجال تاريخياً.
تعد سيمون دي بافوار أيقونة في النضال التاريخي النسوي ويعد كتابها "الجنس الآخر" الذي نشر عام ١٩٤٩ مرجع ايديولوجي هام للحركة النسوية.
بعد هذه المقابلة بأربعين عاماً تقريباً– ستين سنة بعد كتابها الجنس الآخر – ساعدت نقاشات دي بوفوار على بدء فورة الغضب النسوية المستمرة حتى يومنا هذا، فرغم رحيلها منذ أكثر من ثلاثين سنة، مازالت الكاتبة والفيلسوفة الوجودية الفرنسية تلهم الناشطات النسويات في كلّ أنحاء العالم، ومازالت كتبها إلى اليوم تحظى بالرواج والنجاح، بل وتعتبر أفكارها وأطروحاتها مرجعية هامة في الفكر النسوي.

When Simon de Beauvoir was asked about her famous quote ′′ No man is born a woman, but becomes it ′′ in an interview entitled ′′ Why am I a feminist ′′ she replied:
′′ Yes, this formula is the basis for all my theories… meaning very simple, being a woman is not a natural fact. It is the result of a certain history, there is no biological or psychological destiny that defines a woman as she is.. Young girls are made to become women ", What you mean is that women are made to serve men and fall into deliberate marginalization of sexual and social exploitation and consideration It's a second class citizen, as made by so called a ′′ full feminine woman ′′ or a good wife.
Despite biological differences, De Beauvoir Fake revealed the idea that gender differences are sufficient to justify gender-based hierarchy in terms of stature and social strength, arguing that the state of ′′ second class of women ′′ is a result of a long historic process, even if it is no longer intentional Institutions to deprive women of power, they still intend to maintain the power historically mounted by men.
Simon Di Pavwar is an icon in the historic feminist struggle and her book ′′ The Other Gender ′′ published in 1949 is an important ideological reference for the feminist movement.
After this interview almost forty years – sixty years after her other gender book – De Beaufouar's discussions helped start the ongoing spree of feminism to this day, despite her departure for more than thirty years, French author and existential philosopher continue to inspire female activists All over the world, her books to date are still prominent, and even their ideas and theses are important reference to feminist thought.
