وفي كل عام يمثل هذا اليوم فرصة لمراجعة التقدم الذي أحرزته البرلمانات في أن تصبح أكثر تمثيلًا وتأثيرا في حياة الأمم – بأن تصبح أقوى وأصغر وأكثر تنوعآ وتوازنًا بين الجنسين.
وبحلول أكتوبر القادم, يتم البرلمان العراقي 96 سنة وهو من أقدم المجالس النيابية في العالم – وقد تأسس من 100 برلماني شكلوا اللبنة الاولى لرجال الدولة العراقية وتصدوا لتأسيس الدولة الحديثة وانتزاع السيادة بعد صياغة الدستور وتشريع قانون الانتخابات العامة.
وفي ظل جائحة كورونا – أصبح دور البرلمان أكثر أهمية من أي وقت مضى لتمرير القوانين وتخصيص الموارد والتدقيق في إجراءات الحكومة.
والسؤال الأكثر إلحاحا اليوم – في ظل انهيار المنظومة الصحية – هو عن جدية الدور الذي يلعبه البرلمان العراقي في تنفيذ الإجراءات الصحية الطارئة التي أوصت بها منظمة الصحة العالمية؟
Every year, this day represents an opportunity to review the progress made by parliaments in becoming more representative and influential in the lives of nations – by becoming stronger, smaller, more diverse and gender balanced.
By next October, the Iraqi parliament will be 96 years old, one of the oldest parliamentary houses in the world – it was founded by 100 parliamentarians who formed the first brick of Iraqi statesmen and confronted the establishment of the modern state and extract sovereignty after drafting the constitution and Legislation of the General Election Law.
Under the Corona pandemic – Parliament's role is becoming more important than ever to pass laws, allocate resources and scrutinize government actions.
The most urgent question today – in light of the collapse of the health system – is the seriousness of the Iraqi parliament in implementing the emergency health procedures recommended by the World Health Organization?
