Her Honor Judge G. (Dineke) de Groot got nominated as a first woman judge to preside Netherlands Supreme Court On March 13, 2020, by the Dutch Council of Ministers (at Hague – La Haye) as of 1 November 2020. She was recommended as a candidate for president according to the internal procedures by the Supreme Court. She will succeed Maarten Feteris, who will be fully employed in the tax office again on November 1 after six years of presidency. It is customary for the Supreme Court to hold the position of President for up to six years.

Dineke de Groot becomes the first woman president of the Supreme Court. She has been a member of the judiciary since October 1990. After training as a judge, she was affiliated with the Amsterdam District Court from 1996 and also with the Arnhem Court of Appeal from 2009. From 2012 she has been working at the Supreme Court in civil and tax law, first as a counselor and from 1 January 2018 as vice president. Over the years, she combined judicial work with activities for the benefit of the judicial organization as a whole. Since mid-2011, she has been professor by special appointment of the Judiciary and Conflict Resolution Department at VU University Amsterdam.
رئيس المحكمة العليا له سلطة ادارة المحكمة وتسيير شئونها وشئون جميع القضاة في المحكمة العليا ورئيس الهيئة العامة والمجلس التنفيذي لمنظمة المحكمة العليا. يمثل رئيس المحكمة أيضًا المحكمة العليا في الخارج. إلى جانب المدعي العام في المحكمة العليا، يعد الرئيس أيضًا شريكًا استشاريًا لهيئات مهمة أخرى في هولندا، مثل البرلمان ووزير العدل والأمن ومجلس القضاء.
The President of the Supreme Court is the functional authority for all judges in the Supreme Court and chairman of the general board and of the executive board of the organization of the Supreme Court. The president also represents the Supreme Court abroad. Together with the Attorney General at the Supreme Court, the President is also a consultative partner for other important bodies in the Netherlands, such as the Parliament, the Minister of Justice and Security and the Council for the Judiciary.

المنصب الجديد تجربة بخبرة بتحديات جديدة يمكنني القيام بالدور الرائد الذي تتطلبه. من المهم أن يثبت رئيس المحكمة العليا قدرته على ادارة المحكمة وثقته وقدرته علي ارساء دعائم العدالة في الجزء الهولندي والكاريبي من هولندا. أريد أن أتبع أسلافي عندما أتولى الرئاسة في 1 نوفمبر.
You will be the new president of the Supreme Court. What does that mean to you?
It is a special experience that I can take on this pioneering role. It is important that a president of the Supreme Court radiates authority and confidence and shows that justice in the Dutch and Caribbean part of the Kingdom is of service to society. I want to follow my predecessors when I take over the presidency torch on November 1.

You will be the first woman president since the Supreme Court was founded in 1838. How does that feel to you?
When I joined the Supreme Court in 2012, less than 15% of Supreme Court members were women. That is now almost 40 %. That percentage is still increasing steadily. I am proud that in recent years our organization has grown under its own steam towards a better balance in the male / female ratio. It feels good that it is now part of this that the office of president can also be filled by a woman.

If you are going to be president, will you keep reviewing the commercial cases?
Yes, in the civilian chamber. It is good practice at the Supreme Court that the President himself also keeps in touch with the judiciary. It will only be less business than now, so that I can pay sufficient attention to the duties of the President.
جدير بالذكر أن هولندا تحتل المرتبة (38) من بين (153) دولة في تقرير الفجوة بين الجنسين العالمي لعام 2020. مع وجود تمثيل نسائي مرتفع في كافة القطاعات تقريبا من العام والخاص، وبنسبة قاضيات وصلت الي 60٪. بينما احتلت مصر المرتبة (134) في ذات التقرير وتبلغ نسبة القاضيات 0.5%، ولم يتم انشاء مفوضية مكافحة التمييز بموجب المادة 53 من الدستور بعد، ولا توجد ثمة مؤشرات نية لانشاء وزارة لمكافحة التمييز !
It is worth mentioning that Netherlands ranks (38) in the Global Gender Gap Report 2020, with a high women representation in the public and private sectors, with women judge’s percentage 60%. Whilst Egypt has been ranks (134) in the same report, with a women judges percentage (0.5%) and the Anti-discrimination Commissions (by article 53 of the Egyptian Constitution) has not been established yet and it seems there is no intentions for establishing anti-discrimination ministry!
