The year 2020 was the occasion to discover 22 queer artists from Morocco who honored us during the first edition of Nassawiy’ART.
This year, Nassawiy’ART is coming up with a 2nd edition called “Memory of a body,” and its dedicated to queer, trans, and non-binary visual artists (photographs/illustrators). The goal of this exhibit is to shed light on the body through its travels, dreams, dysphoria, metamorphosis, fears, changes, and, most importantly, its spatio-temporal intimacy.
The exhibit project “Memory of a body” is a visual archive of queer, trans, and non-binary bodies that experience, and undergo, different histories, changes, blockages and shifts/divergences in the face of social, political, economic and psychological barriers.
In a society in which we are not able to control our own bodies and in which we are subjected to oppressive biological and social constructs, assignments, and binaries.
This project aims to encourage visual artists to think about and to produce work that reflects their own conceptualization of bodies: what is the meaning of a body? What does it represent for each person? What is corporal intimacy?
“Memory of a body” also aims to encourage trans and non-binary people who are often left out and invisibilized in the arts scene to create and share their work. Trans and non-binary people are too often depicted by people who do not share their identities. Therefore, with this 2nd edition of Nassawiy’ART, Nassawiyat is passing the mic to trans and non-binary people, changing the classical binary representation of bodies, and showcasing new visions and approaches.
This second edition of Nassawiy’ART is an exhibit that will showcase 10 artists who will be selected by Nassawiyat’s artivist committee.
Criteria:
-This project is open to any visual artist that identifies as queer, trans, and/or non-binary.
-The deadline to send projects that will be considered is 30 June.
