“I always had this feeling inside me that it was wrong to identify myself as a woman. I was ashamed all my life. I knew I had to deal with that first, so I could explore myself more and try to find explanations.

Everyone deals with a situation in their own way. For me, it was about understanding spiritually, and then trying to explain things psychologically. I researched about it, I read the Koran (the holy book of the Muslims) several times, and I also read many articles on the net, and so on. Without going into details, my conclusion is the following: God created men, women and in between. He is able to do whatever he wants. And he probably wouldnโ€™t punish me for the way he made me. Iโ€™ll take that risk.

The Prophet Muhammad had many interactions with โ€œMukhanatunโ€, a term used at the time to describe men who disguise themselves as women. And none of these interactions involved hitting or insulting them. In fact, he tried to help them, if they were mistreated on the street. More than that, he lived with one of them in the same household for a while. There is no reason why people in my society should treat me or any other โ€˜differentโ€™ person badly. All Muslims, aspire to be like the prophet, so why are you doing the opposite of what he did. Misinterpretations of religion can cause a lot of damage. We are all aware of this. If being transgender is Haram, why donโ€™t you mistreat people who donโ€™t pray or drink alcohol? Why do we have to be selfish? Just because we like to drink and are lazy to pray, we allow it. And when it comes to the way others dress or express their sexual identity, we insult and abuse them? I am not criticizing Islam. I am criticizing social egoism. I respect all religions and beliefs. I just want people to know that we shouldnโ€™t take things just like that. We should question everything”
