The statement “Religious values override human values” does…

The statement “Religious values override human values” does not pass the logic test. Different religions have different values; should they all be allowed to override human values? If not, which ones should and which ones shouldn’t? And who decides? Let’s take a closer look:

How about the religious value that slaves should be obedient to their masters? Or the religious value that a widow must be burned alive with her deceased husband? Or the religious value of imposing a tax on people of other religions? (And we can go on and on.) These are examples of religious values that are espoused, or had been espoused, by millions of people for centuries. Should they be alowed to override humanistic values?

Although they differ in their value systems, most religions converge on a subset of values, (do not kill, do not steal, do not lie, etc.) This subset of universal values is what we call ‘Human Values’. They are the values that humans of all religions can agree on, and are conducive to harmony and prosperity for all.

The belief that ‘Religious values override human values’ may please the rabble for a while, but it leads to no good. It is the same foundation that bad guys use to justify their crimes.

  1. Yes Farid agree on your analysis. Here in France we considered that what was said is at equal distance between principles and politics. Any healthy brain will agree with the fact that the reason is above all and human as intelligent animal sometimes require ceiling to live with even he will invent one then believe it
