The Jordanian Women's Police Department was established in 1972, where Jordan was the first Arab country that allowed women in the police force. The idea was suggested hesitantly, as it was considered unlikely to succeed. A recruitment advertisement was published in the newspapers at that time and only six girls applied (as we can see in the picture). Despite this, they were accepted, trained and allowed to join the airport police. Afterwards, a well-known anchorwoman applied, which gave the idea a great push, as many girls from large and well-known families applied. Today, there are five thousand Jordanian policewomen, and the Department is considered to be exemplary in the region, accepting delegations for training from various Arab countries.
