ندى الاهدل | 11-Year-Old Yemeni Girl Nada Al-Ahdal Flees Home to Avoid Forced Marriage: I’d

” />

thank you Misha Mansoor

The ‘New Normal’ is such a depressing concept. Wearing face masks, no colleges and universities open, restricted movements, eyes watching you, policing you, making sure you’re obeying the social rules. Fair enough though that at least we are all equally subject to these new laws, privations and limitations.

However, for millions of girls and women this isn’t a blip, or the new normal, or unusual in any way whatsoever. For them, it’s ‘normal’ normal. Only, for these girls and women, the consequences of disobeying are often very punitive and abhorrent.

This is still one of the most heart-pulling, endearing and captivating videos I’ve ever seen on Youtube and I’ve been a fan of Nada Al-Ahdal ever since.

She escaped the reality of her imminent forced marriage in Yemen when she was just eleven years old. She ran away from her parents and lived under the protection of her uncle.

She’s now eighteen and living in London with her uncle and they campaign to end child marriage in Yemen.
